Icarus
The little boy stood
Watching the sky
Thinking to himself
About flying high
Wings he made, with wax and feathers
And up he looked, to make his flight
The sun too bright and ocean too blue
He drew in his breath, and then he flew
Soaring through the winds
And Flapping his wings
Like a big bird
The boy saw the world
The men who saw, stared, dazed
He must be a god ! They said, amazed
as they watched his strange flight
And the boy then chose to show his might
Higher he flew, above the clouds
Hiding his view, from all below
Don't fly too high, don't fly too low
But up he flew and broke the rule
His father did see his son's deed
And called out, come back to me !
The boy so inane, paid no heed
And he went flaring high in the sky
The sun too hot and the boy too close
The wax melted and dripped down his cloak
Fearful he became when his wings fell apart
And the boy was sure he'd fall
Down he went from the height he soared
And he saw the ocean beckoning him down
Icarus fell, crashing on the waves
And there he ended his long flight
Broken and bruised, there his body lay
By the shores, his tragic tale now told
The story of Icarus, the boy who flew
And touched the sky when no one could
